7 Digital Photography Tips For Beginner
Submitted By: Dede Purneim

Do you want to be an excellent photographer? These 7 digital photography tips you can get started on your way to become an excellent photographer if you’d like.

#1. Learn your cameras settings

Chances are you shoot most of your pictures utilizing your camera's "automatic" mode. This will get you average results. If you are striving for great shots, you'll need to learn about other modes too. Take the time to read your camera's manual to understand when to use each shooting mode.

#2. Take more photos

Before going crazy buying the most expensive equipment right away, you had better take more photos because the more photos you take, the more you’ll know about what kind of camera to get when it’s time to upgrade. In other words, you can always delete the bad ones later.

#3. Busting the dust

Digital camera with removable lenses are prone to dust landing on the sensor. Static electricity around the sensor can possibly contribute to attracting dust particles, or other elements to this sensitive area of your camera. You can get rid of the dust is a camera blower brush, and tilt the camera down while blowing. Take care not to get any of the hairs snagged inside.

#4. Use a tripod

A tripod will keep your camera steady which will make your photos clearer.

#5. Shot your subject at different focal length, angles, and formats

Shoot your subject at different focal lengths - using the zoom on your photos will not only change how close your subject appears but it will also change the depth of field (ie the blurring of the background). It also allows you to shoot from different distances which can really impact how relaxed your subject is (there’s nothing better than a photographer in your face to make you tense up)

Shoot your subject from different angles - it’s amazing how much you can change a shot by getting on your knees or taking a few steps to the side.

Shoot using different formats - there are different ways to grip a digital camera. The two main ones are horizontally or vertically but you can also get into all kinds of diagonal ways to do it. Mix it up.

#6. Experiment with different ‘modes’

Even the most basic point and shoot cameras have different ’shooting modes’. These are usually things like ‘portrait’, ‘landscape’, ’sports’, ‘night’ etc. Sometimes it’s worth flicking through these to take shots at different settings. What these modes do is simply change the basic settings (like aperture, shutter speed, ISO) - all things that can change the look and feel of your shot considerably

#7. Play with your Flash

Try turning your flash off or forcing it to fire in shots. Sometimes adding flash to a scene where there’s lots of light behind your subject is essential (even though your camera might not think it needs it). This stops those silhouette shots where it looks like you’re trying to hide the identity on your subject.

The Benefits Of A Digital Camera Over A Film Camera
Submitted By: Gabriel Adams

Most individuals are now opting for the digital camera instead of the standard camera because of its amazing versatility. The capability to store the photographs using a memory card instead of the typical use of film is also a nice bonus! The amount of photos that can be stored on these cards usually varies with the amount of megapixels used to take the photo. The higher the amount of megapixels used for the photo, the lower the amount of photos that will be able to be stored on the memory card. Many individuals simply transfer the photos to their computer in order to free up space on those memory cards and there are several online storage sites available for use that enable photo sharing with individuals of your choice.

Photographs taken with a digital camera can be easily edited on your computer through the utilization of several different programs, though many cameras offer the ability to edit photos effectively right on the camera. The photographs can also be e-mailed to friends and relatives instantly upon transfer to your computer. The many individuals working in the media will find the digital camera to be very useful for coverage of the latest events due to the ability to instantly transmit photographs around the world; enabling the meeting of very short deadlines.

Digital cameras can be used for taking still photographs but they can also record a series of events. An interesting event that takes place can be instantly captured by a digital camera by way of a short film and then can be processed with the assistance of the computer to create a short video clip.

Most of the digital cameras available today come with custom viewfinders and LCD screens, which will enable the person to view the photo before capturing it in the camera, and thus enables you to capture only what you actually want.

The advancements in digital camera technology enable the user to take photos at a magnified version, using the macro lens and powerful zoom features, which will help in uncovering the beauty present in the universe at the micro level. Digital cameras are used to perfection in many of the adventurous activities that we participate in today. They can be used to take photos of all types of events, from underwater explorations to capture the life beneath the sea to the emotional and exciting birth of your first child.

Most of the digital cameras have been provided with their own image handling software, which is used to edit the pictures in the computer. The pictures can be saved in standard formats such as PNG, GIF, or JPEG. The software can be used to further enhance the quality of the picture. Advanced computer software, such as CorelDraw or Photoshop, can be used to further refine the photos that are captured by the digital camera and these stunning pictures can easily be developed using the digital camera in tandem with your home computer and printer.

For the average user, a digital camera is much superior to a film camera.

Camera Requirements For Digital Camera Photography
Submitted By: Jeff Carlisle

ou are going to need a camera if you are taking the plunge into digital camera photography, and the key consideration in choosing a digital camera is speed. In digital camera photography, speed is an important issue because digital cameras need time to transfer the image to your storage media. The photography pros call this 'shutter lag.' With candid photography, a three-second shutter lag can mean the difference between capturing your child with the perfect grin, and taking a blah, ordinary photo.

You also want startup speed in your digital camera, because they eat up a lot of batteries. If you are doing a type of photography where you are taking photos intermittently, you will want to be able to turn of your digital camera, and then have it start right up again when the perfect photography moment arises.

Another speed requirement in digital camera photography is for the autofocus. Once again, you do not want to aim your digital camera, but find your target has wandered off while you wait for your autofocus to resolve your photo.

Also a consideration in digital camera photography is TTL - through the lens composition. This digital camera photography term refers to the fact that some digital cameras require photographers to compose their photos on an image screen. A digital camera with TTL has a viewfinder, like a film camera, allowing the battery-sucking screen to be shut off most of the time.

If you are the least bit interested in using digital camera photography to produce quality photos as a hobby, you will want manual controls. Even if you do not know what those controls do, someday you will want to compose a photo without using the presets built into the digital camera.

Megapixels are also an important element of digital camera photography. Generally, the more megapixels your digital camera can take, the larger your end photographs can be without distortion. However, the more megapixels, the slower your camera responds, and even just three megapixels will produce large, quality photos.

Digital Camera Comparison And Best Digital Camera
Submitted By: Mark Robert

Compare Digital Cameras Before Purchase

If you don't know what brand of digital camera to choose the best thing you can do is to compare them. This article will show you how to compare them and help you in getting your best digital camera. The latest digital cameras are great pieces of machinery, but there are many digital cameras on the market. Although many of these great cameras look very much the same, these cameras can vary significantly in features and price. Fortunately, there are many tools that consumers can use to compare digital cameras before making any purchase.

Are you an amateur or professional photographer?

First you should know this. Because, amateurs and professionals have different needs when buying a camera, but there is information for both groups that will help them compare digital cameras. That secret information is "price"!. This is usually one of the most important considerations for most consumers. These cameras can range in price from a couple hundred dollars to several thousand dollars. The most expensive camera is not always the best camera.

Compare the quality of the images captured.

This one comparison is similar to the phrase "the proof is in the pudding". If the quality of the pictures is not good don't even consider that camera. Because as a consumer you should not buy the cheapest camera if it does not fit your needs. This information should also help consumers buy the camera with the best features at a reasonable price. The information that compares digital cameras should provide facts about the quality of the images captured with the camera. There can be a
significant difference in the quality of the photos taken with digital cameras.

Analyze the reliability of the camera

You should also know how reliable the camera is? A great camera is not going to be much good if the batteries run out quickly. People might lose some great moments because the batteries are dead. Stopping to buy or change batteries could take some time away from an enjoyable activity.

The information often includes consumer reports on the customer service provided by the manufacturer. No one wants to buy a camera that cannot be fixed easily. This information often includes statistics on the weight of the camera. The available information could make a significant difference to photographers who do not want to lug a huge camera on an exciting trip.

Best Digital Cameras Take Magnificent Pictures

The best digital cameras take fantastic pictures, and pictures are memories. The best digital cameras record so many memories that will remain treasures for generations. The best digital cameras have improved so much that even the pros are using these great machines.

Each person who wants to record the family memories will be happy to know that they can use the best digital cameras and get photos that pros would be proud of for their publications. There was a time in the recent past when digital cameras took acceptable pictures, but these machines did not take great pictures.

The Best Digital Cameras Are Easy To Use

The best digital cameras not only take great pictures, but they take these pictures easily. Almost any amateur looking for some great pictures will be able to use these wonderful cameras. The cameras have many advantages over the cameras from the past.

These cameras allow for mistakes. The photographer using a digital camera can see the picture before they take it, and they can examine the image captured as soon as the action is complete. They will be able to instantaneously decide if they would like to keep that image. If they are not happy with their work, the photographer can delete that photo and continue to take pictures.

Latest digital cameras and printers

The latest digital cameras can be used to print the photos as they are taken or later. With the proper equipment, a photographer can take a picture and hook it up to a printer to see the image. Relatives thousands of miles away can have a look at the latest family activities within seconds. They will be able to print these out for their archives as well. The whole family should enjoy the images captured with the best digital cameras.

Buying A Digital Camera To Replace Your Old Film Camera
Submitted By: Brandon Layne

I'm very conservative when it comes to buying myself new "toys". I don’t buy every new gadget that comes out, but when I do buy - I get the latest technology and the highest quality I can afford. That way my investment holds its value for a long time and I’m not tempted to replace it so soon.

I didn't buy a digital camera when they first came out. All you could get were 1 megapixel models with no optical zoom capability. Maybe a good replacement for the cardboard throwaways you get at the supermarket, but I much preferred the quality images I got from my (now 20 year old) Nikon 35mm SLR film camera.

When I finally did buy a digital camera a few years ago, I picked up a slightly used 2.1 megapixel from Olympus digital camera with a 3x autofocus optical zoom. At the time, it was as good a value as you could get when buying a digital camera, but technology being what it is - it's now considered a midrange consumer level camera.

Well, while I'm still satisfied with my Nikon film-based camera, I've been thinking about buying a new digital camera for a few months now. That's because I've seen the amazing shots that my friends have taken with their cameras, and I want to be able to get the same results. In addition, I'm using my 35mm SLR much less these days just because it's so much more convenient to use my digital camera, and I've got a bag full of film that I've never found the time to have developed. It's finally time to buy a new digital camera to actually replace the 35mm camera.

Towards that end, I've been reading online guides and digital camera reviews to catch up on exactly what to look for when buying a digital camera. This research is very helpful, as I evaluate which cameras are easy to use, produce high-quality photos, come packed with features, and are the best bargains. In fact, these resources make the task of buying a digital camera easier than I imagined it would be.

Since I've been doing all this research beforehand, I'm ready to make my purchase now that I've decided that buying a digital camera is the right move for me. I've read about people getting fantastic bargains from online stores, so that's where I'll look first. I also read store reviews as part of my research into buying a digital camera, so I know which websites were trustworthy and which ones to avoid. As a result, I'll be able to complete my purchase without a single problem.

Now that I've made the decision, I really can't remember what was preventing me from buying a new digital camera a long time ago! I can’t wait to get it so I can play around with the settings, and try out the different features that are available on these newer digital cameras. If you ask me, this is the way photography was meant to be.

If you've been thinking about buying a digital camera, I recommend that you go ahead and do it sooner rather than later. You'll be amazed at how much easier it is to take pictures with this kind of equipment and how much better the pictures turn out.

Digital SLR Camera Versus A Compact Digital Camera
Submitted By: Virginia Wong

Digital Single Lens Reflex (SLR) cameras are excellent cameras that produce clearer, sharper and more colourful images than most point and shoot digital cameras available. With prices falling rapidly, they are now more affordable then ever. With the price gap between an entry model digital SLR camera and the most expensive compact digital camera narrowing; the question is… do I spend the extra money and get a Digital SLR camera? or save a few hundred dollars and purchase the best digital compact camera.

Well, it really depends on your budget; however if you do spend the extra money, here's what you get:

In addition to the price falls in the Digital SLR models, the performance on these cameras has increased year on year with the latest Digital SLR cameras being quicker and faster than ever before. They have improved to such an extent that power up or start-up time is near instantaneous with virtually no lag time. “Lag time is the time between you pressing the shutter release button and the camera actually taking the shot”. This delay can vary quite a bit between different camera models and it is one of the biggest drawbacks compared to a compact digital camera. The latest digital SLR cameras have virtually no lag times and react in the same way as conventional film cameras, even in burst mode. Compact digital cameras are catching up; however the difference is still significant. A lag time of ~0.5 seconds can result in you missing the heartbeat of the moment and hence that potential great picture.

Digital SLR camera also has a larger sensor versus a smaller sensor in a compact digital camera. This equates to higher sensitivity and less noise and results in the camera taking clearer pictures in low light. (They also have better autofocus speed in low light as well). A measure of sensitivity in a digital camera is ISO and a typical ISO range for a Digital SLR camera varies from ISO 100 – 1600 with the latter being more sensitive. The ISO range for a compact digital camera varies from ISO 50 – 400. In summary, the higher the ISO rating, the greater the sensitivity and the better the photo can be taken in low light.

The Digital SLR cameras have a much longer battery life due to the limited use of the LCD screen. Please note, that as the LCD screen is only used for viewing the image, the battery life of a digital SLR can allow up to 2000 shots per charge in some cameras compared to 500 for a good point and shoot digital camera.

Digital SLR cameras also allow you to interchange lens such as adding a zoom or macro lens when required.

On the negative side of a Digital SLR camera; they are usually larger and heavier than compact digital cameras, the image cannot be previewed on the LCD screen prior taking the picture. If you really require the image to be viewed on the LCD prior to taking the picture, there are third party manufacturers that produce LCD screens that attaches to the viewfinder and allow the scene to be view just like a compact digital camera. The other drawback is the inability to take videos and finally, lenses are expensive with the majority costing more than the camera itself.

Although compact digital cameras cannot compete on features with a Digital SLR camera, they are great value, have the ability to take videos and are portable. If you have decided to purchase a Digital SLR camera I recommend you visit other websites which has Information on Digital Camera and compare the features. If you are still undecided, purchase both.

Buying A Digital Camera: A Beginner’s Guide
Submitted By: Ashish Jain

For any beginner photographer or a first time buyer of digital camera, choosing and buying a digital camera can become a task. There is so much that goes in to buying a digital camera for the first time. But you need not worry about that. For I provide you a step-by-step camera buying guide here:

Research: Talk to people

As a beginner you should keep certain things in your mind. First of all you should ask yourself, what are the features you need, what type of photos you are going to click with your new digital camera. There are a lot of features in a digital camera such as modes, zooms, lenses, flash, focus, viewfinder, resolution and timer. Decide which features you want in your camera. You can talk to your family and friends and other digital camera features to know their opinions on various camera features. This will help you jot down the basic expectations you owe from your new camera.

Price factor

Set a realistic budget for your first camera and look for cameras in that price range only. Prices of digital cameras have fallen greatly over the years. Still, a digital camera purchase is considered expensive to its 35mm counterpart’s purchase.

Next, gain a good knowledge about the models of cameras you are considering buying. Don’t be a fool by going all by your friend’s choice. Be a proud owner of a digital camera that suits your needs rather than someone else's.

Satisfy your needs

As a beginner you should look for models that are easy to use and operate. Do not go for flashy models. They may not satisfy your needs.

Now decide on your printing needs. If most of your photos will be uploaded to a website or emailed, you will not need a lot of mega pixels in your camera. But if you are planning to make a lot of larger prints, you need a camera with a lot of mega pixels.

By narrowing down your options as per the needed camera features, you can decide which camera is best suited to you. Visit the stores and handle the devices personally. You should shop around for the best price. Pick up additional warranty if any. Take some great pictures.

Below are some of the great cameras for you:

1.Nikon coolpix 4100: It is a one easy to use camera. The camera is imaging wonder with 4.2 mega pixels and 3x optical zoom features to it.

2.Kodak Easyshare cx7330: This is a decent point and shoot camera that comes with 3.1 mega pixels and a combined 10x zoom features. The camera does not have much fancy features. But for a beginner, the camera is perhaps the best pick.

3.Canon Powershoot S410: This power shot camera from Canon is a four mega pixel camera. The camera is very stylish to operate and indeed offer all the basic functions of an average camera.

I am sure buying a digital camera is no longer a task for you.

Choosing A Digital Camera For The Beginner
Submitted By: Lalit Rastogi

With the explosion in digital photography over recent years, many people are confused about which digital camera to purchase. There are many digital cameras on the market ranging from 3 megapixels to a staggering 12 megapixels in one of the latest Sony compacts. So how do you cut through the jargon and the multitude of models available to find the camera that is right for you. Firstly you have to decide how the camera will be used. If you are a complete beginner and you just want a fully automatic digital camera for taking pictures of the family and social events, many of the 5 or 6 megapixel cameras around the $150 to $200 price bracket will fulfill your needs. These cameras normally come with a 3 times zoom lens which will allow you to take group shots at the wide setting and individual shots at the telephoto setting. In addition many of these cameras will have scene modes for various situations such as taking pictures on the beach, at sunset, close ups, portraits and much more.

Nearly every camera these days comes with a built in flash which can normally be turned off for more moody shots in available light. All the big manufacturers make these cameras and I would recommend purchasing a camera from one of the big names such as Canon, Sony, Nikon, Olympus, Fujifilm, Kodak, Panasonic and Pentax. It is always advisable to draw up a shortlist of cameras and then try them out at a local camera store to test the camera's response times, the quality of it's LCD and overall general feel of the camera in terms of size and functionality. For anyone requiring a camera to be used frequently in low light without flash, Fujifilm cameras with their 6 or 8 megapixel super CCD will be the best option.

For beginners who may be interested in developing their digital photography skills, a digital camera with various manual control options in addition to program modes will be the best option. This will allow the user to experiment with various manual settings as a way of learning digital photography as well as being able to produce more creative shots than in program mode. Various manual exposure settings are available on some digital cameras including shutter priority, aperture priority and full manual whereby the user sets both the aperture and shutter speed. For high quality cameras at a low price, the Canon Powershot A series of cameras offer full manual controls as well as a 4 times zoom lens on most models. In terms of pixels, 6 to 8 megaixels will be more than enough to produce good quality A4 prints right upto A3 and beyond.

For beginners requiring a digital camera for travel, nature photography and general all round use, a camera with a large zoom lens and image stabilization will offer the most versatility. Panasonic, Fujifilm, Canon, Sony and Olympus all make excellent cameras with large zoom lenses that often cover the 35mm equivalent range of 35mm to 400mm. Some cameras come with full manual controls and a hotshoe for external flash which adds to the versatility of the camera.

To conclude, there is huge range of digital cameras on the market today covering the needs of beginners right up to professionals. The vast majority of cameras offer very similar features such as a 3 times zoom lens, 6 to 8 megapixels, built in flash, a 2.5" LCD, various scene modes and a small compact body. For the beginner, it is best to try out various cameras at a camera store until you are happy with the quality, responsiveness and feel of the camera. For users requiring more advanced features such as manual controls and long zoom lenses, the choice is more limited but there are still many models to choose from. In the final analysis, do not waste too much time looking for a digital camera. Once you have found a camera which meets your requirements, move on and start enjoying digital photography as it is the photographer who creates great photographs and not the camera.

Digital Camera Considerations For The Beginner
Submitted By: Tom Watson

As most people will tell you when choosing the right digital camera, you should consider what purpose you would be using the camera for. You may be advised to get a cheap digital camera if your intentions are photographing birthday parties and holidays, and for most people who just need a camera, this is probably good advice.

However, when you consider yourself a novice or a beginner in digital photography, you may have other intentions as you pursue your interests in photography. You know who you are and you can answer this question for yourself.

Pursuing digital photography as a hobby, for example, should enhance your decision in choosing a camera with features that help result in higher resolutions. And purchasing a camera with more features will help you learn. After all, getting a cheaper digital camera will only be frustrating, when you realize you could have had a better, reliable model for only a little more money.

In the current digital camera market, the number of megapixels a camera has is dominating the choice an amateur photographer makes. If you want a good digital camera that will not break your bankroll, then make the choice to not purchase one with more than six megapixels. Although at the writing of this article, the seven megapixel cameras are very popular, perhaps you can find a great deal on a six megapixel.

Consider the Fuji FinePix A610 Digital Camera. Now there are many great models of digital cameras on the market, but the Fuji FinePix line of cameras is very popular with many beginners. Sporting 6.3 megapixels, this particular model will perform very well for you.

The following statement is an example of what the future may hold for digital photographers. You will be finding extremely better resolution from the most low cost camera models, not to mention some great new features listed in the next paragraph.

Other considerations on choosing the right camera for your needs are anti blur features, anti shake and image stabilization features. You may not find them on any conservative model camera, but they are worth mentioning here. These are pretty cool features as they not only help people with shaky hands while photographing, but also enable you to take pictures in darker areas without a flash.

So, besides concerning yourself with what you will be using your new digital camera for, do some research beforehand and decide what features on a camera will best suit your needs for your evolving photographic endeavors. A model with extra features you do not need today is a good decision, because you may need them tomorrow as the interest in your hobby grows.
